Metalworks Institute and Digidesign hosted a three-day DigiDays event from Oct. 27 to 29, at Metalworks Institute in Mississauga, ON. Some of the show highlights included the unveiling of Pro Tools 7 software in Canada and demos of the Digidesign VENUE live sound console and the ICON 80-fader D-Control console. Attendees also visited the Metalworks studios for workshops and the LiveWire Remote recording truck. There were free master classes that focused on Pro Tools basics, virtual instruments and the ICON console. There was also a display room where attendees could see the latest that Celemony, Eventide, iZotope, McDSP, Native Instruments, Soundminer, URS and Waves had to offer. Ten of the seminars were conducted by industry guest presenters including: Alfio Annibalini, recording engineer, mixer; Nick Blagona, mastering engineer; Graham Brewer, producer, Digitalis Audio Group; Justin Grey, songwriter, producer, remixer, programmer; Doug McClement, remote recording engineer, LiveWire Records; and Michael Nunan, CTV post-sound supervisor. Plans for a future Digidays are still in the works. “Given it’s the first time in Toronto, and everybody wants to do it again next year, we now have a template to work with, I think we should be doing it again next year,” advises Bourgeois. “I can’t promise it, but it’s looking like might be possible.” For more information, contact: Digidesign, 2001 Junipero Serra Blvd., Daly City, CA 94014 (650) 731-6300, www.digidesign.com.
